Man Utd summer spree set to kick into gear as two targets confirm transfer preference

May 09, 2023

Manchester United are set for a busy summer of transfers with Erik ten Hag closing in on multiple deals including Mason Mount of Chelsea and Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojland

Manchester United have been told that Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojland and defender Axel Disasi of Monaco both want to move to Old Trafford this summer.

United boss Erik ten Hag is intent on strengthening all areas of his squad this summer with the club pushing for the transfer of Chelsea's Mason Mount. He is aware that Chelsea want to sell him this summer and he has expressed a preference for joining United in that instance.

Atalanta striker Hojlund is on a six-man striker shortlist at Old Trafford this summer with the club prioritising the addition of a central striker. Anthony Martial, whose future is uncertain, and Marcus Rashford, who prefers to play from the left, are the only two senior strikers on United's books.

The Denmark international has impressed in his debut season in Bergamo having joined from Sturm Graz last summer. Despite a host of clubs tracking his progress, United and Real Madrid were said to be the most advanced in their interest.

United are emerging as favourites to sign Hojlund this summer and are showing the strongest interest. It is believed that a bid of £43million (€50m) would be enough to sign the striker, with Sky Sports reporting that the Red Devils are poised to formalise their interest in the player.

Speaking back in January, Hojlund revealed of his preference for joining United: "Now that you ask, I will not hide the fact that I am a huge Manchester United fan. So personally, it would be one of the biggest things for me, but of course, that doesn't mean that I would turn down other big clubs if the offers come at some point."

A report from The Athletic earlier in the week had highlighted that the agency which represents Ten Hag, SEG, have also brokered a deal with Hojlund - a development which could boost Manchester United's hopes of snaring the sought-after striker.

It is also known that Monaco defender and France international Disasi, who featured in the World Cup final, has also made United aware of his desire to move to the club. Disasi is on United's shortlist for defensive improvement, along with Napoli defender Kim-min jae.

The South Korean international has a £43million release clause in his contract that does not become active until July and Paris Saint-Germain are also keen on his signing. United want to sign a defender this summer but they are prioritising the signing of at least one striker and Mount, meaning that their budget for a defender remains unknown at this stage.
