‘All Together Now’ theme of reading program for all ages

The Harrison County Public Library invites everyone to participate in the annual Summer Reading Challenge. This year's theme is "All Together Now."

Designed for all ages, the program began May 22 and continues through July 31. For each library book, eBook, audiobook or magazine read, adult participants earn tickets for a chance to win prizes. Register anytime at any library location or online.

Adult programs for June include (all programs are free unless otherwise noted):

Creative Cards — Thursday, June 8, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Palmyra branch and Monday, June 12, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Lanesville branch, join this class to create handmade cards to take home. All materials are included.

Just Desserts — Monday, June 5, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the main library in Corydon, participants will bring a themed dessert to share along with the recipe used to create it. The theme for June is Ice Cream. Participants will sample each other's desserts and collect copies of each recipe.

Memories & Memoirs Book Club — Tuesday, June 6, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at Corydon, join this book club if you love historical and biographical books. The June book is "The Hundred-Foot Journey" by Richard C. Morais.

Books & Bagels — Friday, June 9, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at Corydon, choose any book from the library's collection to read. Come enjoy a bagel and be prepared to share an overview and thoughts about the book you selected.

Manga & Anime Club —Saturday, June 10, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Corydon, for those who love reading manga and watching anime,. For June, participants will discuss "Death Note Vol. 1" by Tsugumi Oba.

Early Birds — Mondays, June 12 and 26, from 9 to 10 a.m., meet at the YMCA of Harrison County's Trailhead for a beginner birdwatching outing. Learn local birds by sight and sound. Children pre-K and up. are welcome.

Clever Crafts — Wednesday, June 14, from 5 to 6 p.m. at Corydon, come create clever crafts. June's craft is a patriotic ribbon wreath. All materials will be provided, including instructions and help if needed. Registration is required.

Cook Book Club — Thursday, June 15, from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Corydon, participants will bring a themed dish (main or side) to share along with the recipe used to create it. The theme for June is Corn. Participants will sample each other's dishes and collect copies of each recipe.

Painting with Jamie — Thursday, June 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Elizabeth, join this program to paint a patriotic scene while artist Jamie guides you step by step through your painting. All materials will be provided. Registration is required, space is limited.

Mystery Book Club — Monday, June 19, from 2 to 3 p.m. at Lanesville. The June book is "S Is for Silence."

Paper Quilling — Monday, June 19, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Lanesville, learn the art of paper quilling (rolling, shaping and gluing strips of paper to create decorative designs). These creations can be used to decorate greeting cards, make wall art, jewelry and more. Registration is required.

Eat Smart Live Strong — Tuesday, June 20, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and Wednesday, June 21, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Corydon, join this program to learn about healthy eating options and participate in light physical activity. Samples of a healthy recipe will be provided. This program will be presented by the Harrison County Purdue Extension Office.

Not Your Mother's Book Club — Thursday, June 22, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Palmyra. Various genres will be read based on participants’ ideas. The June book is "This Is How It Always Is" by Laurie Frankel.

Fred C. Cammack Corydon Farmers Market — Friday, June 23, from 4 to 7 p.m., drop by the HCPL booth to say hello and check out all the library has to offer.

What's Your Angle? —Monday, June 26, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Corydon. Whether you are a novice or a more experienced photographer, join this program to share photos, ideas and tips while developing your photography skills. Each month will highlight a new "challenge" for participants. The challenge for June is My God.

Junk Journaling —Wednesday, June 28, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Lanesville, join this class to create your own junk journal from recycled and found materials. Design your pages to be used for writing, drawing, recording memories or whatever you would like.

Puzzle PALooza —Wednesday, June 28, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Corydon, drop in and join this program to work on puzzles and socialize with others.

English as a Second Language/Ingles como segundo idioma — Thursdays, June 1, 15 and 29, from 5 to 6 p.m. and Tuesdays, June 6 and 20, from 11 a.m. to noon at Corydon, this ESL program is intended for adult learners wanting to improve their English language skills.

Stitches in Time/Sit & Stitch — Tuesdays from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Corydon, Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Palmyra and Thursdays from 2 to 4 p.m. at Lanesville, bring a current project or start something new. Work at your own pace and enjoy the company of others.
